Re: Letter of Support Request –
Meadowood Community Park – Playground and Sport Court
Please be advised the Regional District of Nanaimo Board recently approved a resolution for staff to pursue a funding application through the Province of British Columbia Community Recreation Program for two components of the Meadowood Community Park, a playground and sport court.
Meadowood Community Park has been a planned community park development project for a number of years with the planning/design process for the park scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012. Once the park’s master plan, associated cost estimate and phasing plan have been developed through consultation with the community and approved by the Board, the next critical step in moving forward with the project will be to secure funding.
To further enhance the opportunity to secure the grant funding, we are requesting support letters from various community organizations which will be included in the grant application. For your convenience, I have attached a draft letter which you may use as a template, if you or your organization wishes to provide a letter in support for this community project.
On behalf of the Regional District, I wish to thank you for your support of this vital community project which will enhance and enrich the lives of many of the young people, families and the greater community living in the Corcan/Meadowood region of Electoral Area ‘F’.
Upon completion of your letter, please return it to the Regional District by way of one of the following three methods:
Either use an electronic signature or scan your letter after signing, then email a copy to HYPERLINK “mailto:emcculloch@rdn.bc.ca” emcculloch@rdn.bc.ca.
Drop a copy of the letter at the Meadowood General Store, 1221 Meadowood Way.
Fax a copy of the letter to 250-248-3294 (Attn: Elaine McCulloch).
Due to the rapidly approaching year end deadline for the grant application, please provide your letter of support by December 12, 2011.
Thank you for your attention and consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
Next letter

Dear Director Stanhope:
Re: Meadowood Community Park: Accessible Playground and Sport Court –
Community Recreation Program Funding Application
Please accept this letter as support for the Regional District of Nanaimo’s funding application for the Meadowood Community Park – playground and sport court, to the Province of British Columbia Community Recreation Program.
Consider adding why the project is beneficial to the rural community of Meadowood/Corcan Road and surrounding areas such as: improving physical activity in children and youth; providing a safe, active, suitable venue for community members to gather and socialize; supporting healthier families by providing greater access to a local recreation facility/park; creation of a community that attracts families.
For example:
The Meadowood Community Park development project has been a high priority project for the Meadowood/Corcan community for a number of years. This project will improve the livability and attractiveness of our community by transforming an old gravel pit into a vibrant, safe, active, community gathering space that is accessible to all. The development of a park within the central core of our community will support healthy families by providing our children, youth and other members of our community the opportunity to play and recreate within our own community and to get there by walking or riding bikes, rather than having to drive XXXX km to Qualicum Beach or Parksville for similar facilities.
On behalf of the (name of organization), I would like to thank the Regional District and the Province of BC in considering the Meadowood Community Park – playground and sport court as a priority project for funding through the Province of British Columbia Community Recreation Program.
Sincerely,
