WEATHER WARNING

In addition to the heavy rain received last week, we will be experiencing another ‘atmospheric river’ of rain through to Tuesday.  Environment Canada has forecasted East Vancouver Island basins to receive between 100-150 mm of total rain, based on the current forecasted storm track.  For your specific area, 50-80 mm may be likely as the larger storm system is moving north at this point.  The good news is we have no high streamflow advisories any more for watercourses in our region, but we still need to be aware of potential ground instability due to cumulative rainfall impacts.  Care should be taken when walking near steep slopes or near water courses as the heavy rain has saturated the soil, which can potentially cause ground instability in certain areas.

Having adequate home emergency supplies in case of power outage, having grab and go bags ready in case you need to leave your home, and planning for pets ahead of time will give peace of mind and help to keep you safe during a winter related emergency.

Be Safe.  Be Proactive.  Be Ready!
